Gilberto Santa Rosa is one of the most esteemed, and certainly one of the most tradition-minded, soneros to rise to fame in the 1980s, and his popularity and acclaim only increased in subsequent decades, as did his stateliness. His style of salsa isn’t easily categorized, for he often changes approach from one album to the next. His straight-ahead, dance-oriented albums (e.g., Perspectiva [1991], Auténtico [2004]) as well as his eclectic ones (Esencia [1996], Expresión [1999]) tend to be his most critically celebrated. “Vivir Sin Ti” is available on Santa Rosa’s latest album, “Irrepetible.”

Pick Hit Of The Month

Shakira’s getting a little crazy in our “premier pick hit of the month”. “Loca,” her first single from her upcoming studio album, “Sale El Sol”/”The Sun Comes Out”, is already getting a major buzz and is slated to street on October 19. Recorded in the Dominican Republic, “Loca” is Shakira’s interpretation of Dominican artist El Cata’s song “Loca Con Su Tiguere”. There will also be an English version featuring Dizzee Rascal, the UK’s number one rapper.

“Loca” is a catchy and upbeat dance number, but hey, what did you expect from the woman who can shake it like no other.   We’ll be going “loca” anxiously anticipating the hot Latin and Anglo mixes that are sure to heat up the dance floors worldwide .   The video for the single is sure to be a “sizzler” as well—it was shot in Barcelona, where Shakira was recently seen in the news “shaking things up”.   But none of that surprises us…that’s what makes her such a unique and fascinating artist! - Frank Ceraolo
